Replace Missing Teeth — For Life

A dental implant is the closest thing modern dentistry has to a natural tooth. Stable, beautiful, and built to last decades.

Dental Implants at West Broadway Dental, Kitsilano

Losing a tooth — whether to trauma, decay, or gum disease — affects far more than your appearance. It changes how you bite, how you speak, and over time, the shape of your face as the underlying jawbone begins to resorb. Dental implants are the only tooth-replacement option that addresses all of these concerns at once. The titanium implant post integrates with your natural bone, preserving its volume and providing a rock-solid foundation for the porcelain crown placed on top. At West Broadway Dental, Dr. Sharma coordinates your entire implant journey from initial planning — including a CBCT scan to assess bone volume — through to placing the final restoration. Our Kitsilano patients consistently tell us that their implant feels and functions exactly like a natural tooth.

Transparent pricing

Dental implants are a significant investment, but they're also the most durable and cost-effective long-term solution for tooth loss — many implants last a lifetime with proper care. West Broadway Dental provides a detailed, all-inclusive quote covering every stage of your treatment. Some dental plans include implant benefits; we'll verify and direct-bill your insurance. Flexible financing is available for those who prefer to spread payments over time.

Common concerns we see

  • Single Missing Tooth

A gap left by a missing tooth allows neighbouring teeth to drift and the opposing tooth to over-erupt, creating a cascade of bite and spacing problems. A single implant and crown fills the gap permanently without touching or compromising the adjacent healthy teeth.

  • Failing or Loose Dentures

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and tend to slip, limit food choices, and require messy adhesives. Implant-supported overdentures snap onto implants for a secure fit that restores full chewing function and eliminates embarrassing movement.

  • Bone Loss From Long-Term Tooth Absence

The longer a tooth has been missing, the more the jawbone shrinks in that area. Dr. Sharma assesses bone quantity and quality with advanced imaging; if bone grafting is needed, we'll plan that as part of your implant process and refer you to a trusted oral surgeon.

  • Multiple Missing Teeth

Whether you're missing a few teeth in a row or need a full-arch restoration, implants offer solutions from implant-supported bridges to fixed full-arch prostheses ('All-on-4' style). Dr. Sharma will recommend the most effective, minimally invasive option for your situation.

How the treatment works

  1. Consultation & 3-D Imaging

Dr. Sharma reviews your dental and medical history and takes a CBCT scan — a detailed, three-dimensional X-ray — to evaluate bone volume, nerve locations, and sinus proximity. This data drives safe, predictable implant placement.

  2. Implant Placement

The titanium implant post is placed into the jawbone by an oral surgeon or periodontist we work with closely — specialists we trust for their precision and patient care. Placement is done under local anaesthetic, and most patients return to work the next day.

  3. Osseointegration (Healing Period)

Over three to six months, the implant fuses with the surrounding bone in a process called osseointegration. Dr. Sharma monitors healing during this phase. Once integration is confirmed, you return to our Kitsilano office for the next step.

  4. Crown Placement

We take a precise digital scan of your implant and surrounding teeth, then design and fabricate a custom porcelain crown matched to your natural tooth colour and shape. The crown is attached to the implant — and you leave with a complete, functional, beautiful tooth.

Common questions about dental implants

Are dental implants painful?

Implant placement is performed under local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Post-operative soreness is normal for a few days and is well-managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the recovery is.

How long do implants last?

The titanium implant post can last a lifetime when cared for properly. The porcelain crown on top typically lasts 15–25 years before it may need replacement due to normal wear. Excellent home care and regular check-ups at West Broadway Dental are the keys to longevity.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults with adequate bone density are excellent candidates. Conditions like uncontrolled diabetes, certain medications (e.g., bisphosphonates), or heavy smoking can affect healing and need to be discussed. Dr. Sharma reviews your full medical history at your consultation to give you an honest assessment.

How do I care for an implant?

Exactly the same way you care for natural teeth — twice-daily brushing, daily flossing or interdental brushes around the implant, and regular check-ups. The implant itself cannot decay, but the surrounding gum tissue can develop peri-implantitis (implant gum disease) if hygiene is neglected.

How long is the full implant process?

From placement to final crown, the typical timeline is four to eight months, primarily because osseointegration takes time. In straightforward cases with good bone volume, same-day or early-loading protocols may shorten this. Dr. Sharma will outline a realistic timeline at your planning appointment.
